When we encounter experiences that violate our sense of safety, we experience trauma. This can include violent physical experiences, psychological and/or emotional experiences. The imprint left in our physical body affects the totality of our organism.
Clinicians have recognized that while traditional psychotherapy addresses the cognitive and emotional elements of trauma, it lacks techniques that work directly with the physical elements which profoundly affects the body. Yoga promotes a mind/body experience that brings harmony and cultivates acceptance and nurturing.
Reclaiming your body as yours alone and making peace with the sensations caused by triggers is the goal. In addition to my accredited 200-hour training I have taken an additional 160-hours of trauma informed classes. Modified poses and directives that are sensitive to potential triggers as well as constant encouragement to be in control of your individual practice is the foundation of my teaching style.
Let's connect! Contact me and we can discuss more details to answer any questions you may have.
Often times the mind shuts down during traumatic experienes but the bodily sensations carry the memories and leave us feeling trapped and as if we do not have control. To overcome this imprint, we must befriend these sensations and listen to their messages in order to restore a sense of safety. This is done through somatic sensory experiences that allow us to tolerate sensations and reprogram new patterns. There is hope in reclaiming your body.
